In memory of Dr. Martha Post

In September, 2011, Doctor Martha Post was murdered outside her medical practice in Lexington, KY.  Yesterday, her murderer was finally found guilty and will no doubt spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Martha’s daughter, Caitlin, was my daughter’s best-friend while in grade school. My fondest memory of Caitlin and Frith together was one fall afternoon when they “helped” me put together trick-or-treats bags. There was a mountain of candy in front of two sets of widening blue eyes, and two heads of blonde hair. It was the closest to nirvana that these towheads could possibly imagine.

Even harder to imagine, is Caitlin having to take the stand in her mother’s murder trial…reminding us all of her mother’s laugh, and her mother’s hugs. Martha was a fabulous mother, wife, doctor, friend, with a generous spirit, full of charity and love. She embodied the very best in humanity. And Caitlin and her two sisters –Erin and Kathryn — will all contribute to this world in ways that’ll make Martha proud.

Martha’s life was a lesson in love. She won’t be forgotten.
